Peerless is level 1 of 4 in the Guyana Hall of Fame: changed the field itself. Tell the country's story without them and the story breaks. See how the levels work.
Why they are here
An enslaved cooper who led the Berbice Rebellion of 1763, one of the earliest large-scale uprisings against slavery in the Americas.
The rebels held much of the Dutch colony of Berbice for most of a year. Cuffy is Guyana's National Hero, the 1763 Monument in Georgetown stands in his honour, and Republic Day falls on 23 February, the anniversary of the rising.
